So The Block has finished for another season, but the Free Furniture Sourcing enquiries are still coming in thick and fast for bits and pieces spotted on The Block!
Don’t forget, if you see something you like in a magazine, book, on TV, in a store or in a friend’s house and you can’t find it yourself, send me a pic or a little description and I’ll do my best to find the same piece or something similar. All for free!
I launched the pop-up store in November last year not really knowing how long I would run it for but it’s been super successful, especially the ring dishes, I can’t keep up with demand for them, there is limited stock at the moment so if you’ve been wanting on for a while I suggest you start clicking!
I’ve been surprised that the Bowl Overs have done so well, I took a risk on them as I’d never seen anything like them before and wondered if anyone else would use them too, apparently you do!
The candles are my favourites, hand poured into old Fowler’s jar, some even come complete with rusty lids!
I’m going to eventually add more to the store and am always on the look out for new products that aren’t available in Australia or not widely accessible.
If you have any suggestions of things you’ve been trying to source yourselves please let me know in the comments section!
My friend Loni, editor of Adore Home Magazine is working on a printed book! This is very exciting for me, a total design book nerd.
To get the project off the ground, Loni needs to raise a certain amount of money to get the book printed through a website called Pozible. So if you’d like to see Adore Home in print please pledge your support via this link!
A few weeks ago I mentioned I was selected to participate in the Feast Watson Re-Love Project and showed you a photo of the chair I was going to make-over. Well over the weekend I started the sanding process and stripped the old fabric off. Here’s how it’s coming along…
The chair will be auction for charity (Salvos Stores) on 9th of May.
Have you ever attempted sanding before? After almost dislocating my shoulder from sanding back and forth with sand paper, so I pulled out the big guns and found it much easier with the mouse sander. Note to self, don’t try and sand a whole chair without a mouse sander in future! Next step is to apply undercoats before limewashing. Any tips?!
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve been working with X-Factor Winner Sammi Jade and online furniture retailer Zanui to furnish her new Sydney apartment. Last week we filmed her apartment for Better Homes & Gardens, it was a warm day so in a 1 bedroom apartment with the doors closed, three big studio lights and 12 people crammed into the space it was a little hectic. Try ironing a bed in those conditions! Quite often people tell me that they think my job is glamorous, it has it’s moments but usually I’m dressed for hardwork not ‘fluffing’. Prep before a shoot is usually longer than the shoot itself, organising props, flowers, last minute bits and pieces, printing art and cleaning every surface in sight.
Once it’s photographed properly I’ll be able to share more photos and where to buy all the goodies we selected!
Here’s a little sneak peek from film day last week.
I find selecting art one of the most difficult parts of my job, there’s such a huge gap in the market for affordable art (anyone out there listening?!?!!?) I did however stumble upon this cute store over the weekend and ordered the Donkey Ears print (donkeys are one of my favourite animals). These prints would look very sweet in a nursery, especially if you’re setting up the room and not sure of the baby’s gender yet.
Aren’t they adorable?! I’m probably way too old to own such prints but I don’t care!
I’ve been very slack sharing photos of homes I’ve styled recently, I have plenty coming I promise, I’m just waiting on professional photos before sharing! However, I can share this house. Ellie Bradley owner and designer of Xavier & Me cushions asked me to help style her home for this gorgeous shoot currently featured on Interiors Addict. The best part about styling a cushion designers home? There is absolutely no shortage of cushions to use around the house! I think this house is proof that a few bright cushions scattered around the place add such impact.

Over the weekend I ordered a bunch of new decorating books. I have this thing where I collect decor books, it’s so bad that all of my family and friends no longer buy me books for my birthday because the chances that I already have the decor book is pretty high. I’ve received double ups more times than I can count. Yet, I always seem to find more on Book Depository that I don’t own 😉
These are few of the books winging their way to me.
Have you bought any decor books lately?
I’m a bit late to the washi tape party, I’ve seen it on Instagram for ages now but never really got involved until the other day when I visited Table Tonic in Avalon and bought a few rolls. If you search on Pinterest, there’s literally thousands of different projects you can do with washi tape. I’ve been experimenting on walls, paper, windows and more! Have you been sucked into the washi tape addiction?
How effective, yet relatively simple.
You could easily do this on a budget, all you need is an Ikea bookcase and some wallpaper and an afternoon of crafting!
Have you attempted any crafty DIY projects lately?
After wasting an extrodinary amount of time on Pinterest, I’ve decided I’d like to design and decorate a wine bar so any clients out there looking to start a wine bar let me know, I’m your girl! 😉
Trade Fairs always mean a big day out with sore feet guaranteed, but Life In Style never disappoints. The suppliers always put in such a great effort with their stands and the products are equally as fabulous. These were my favourite pics from the fair. Unfortunately some suppliers wouldn’t let me photograph their products so I couldn’t share all the treasures I found yesterday. 🙁
Did anyone else attend? What were your favourite stands?
